Call for Return of Capital Punishment

by chrisgoacher

Action always creates reaction, or so it seems. Following the conviction of Steve Wright for the murder of 5 Prostitutes in Suffolk the call has been reignited for the return of Capital Punishment. It is a natural reaction to those closest to the victims, but good law does not come from those emotionally involved by this or any crime. The most violent and repressive societies in the world are those that still retain Capital Punishment as the ultimate sanction. Violence, murder, sanction by government does not halt violent crime it only condones it; Just as a parent that smacks teaches a child that violence is the path to get your own way. So too the Police asking for a national data base containing the DNA of all adults over the age of 18 is, I think, a step too far. They argue it would make their job easier, I am sure it would, but at what cost to personal freedom and liberty. I do not agree with every law of this land but I do think we have a fair and just system compared with many other countries but it must protect the values of freedom, equity and justice that make Britain, great.
